FAQs

Here is a list of our frequently asked questions to help you plan your project.

If you have any other questions, please get in touch with us.

  • An exterior house paint does more than simply make your home look great. It can help protect the substrate and building materials from harsh weather, and it can help increase the value of your property. We, therefore, recommend that you have your home professionally painted about every eight years. This will depend, of course, on the condition of your home and its exterior surfaces. Feel free to request an estimate here.

  • We may ask you to remove some household items and smaller pieces of furniture from an interior room we’re painting, but other than that, there is not much else you need to do.

  • Our standard preparation process includes:

    1. Thoroughly cleaning surfaces to remove any dirt, dust, grime or mould.

    2. Masking and covering to protect the areas we don’t want to paint using tape, plastic, and drop sheets.

    3. Scraping and sanding to remove any loose or peeling paint.

    4. Removing any loose rust from the surface and applying rust convertor to any remaining corrosion.

    5. Repairing/filling holes and cracks with bog, water-based filler, epoxy filler or sealant.

    6. Keying the surface, which involves a light but thorough sand to prepare the surface.

    7. Spot priming exposed areas to seal any bare timber and metal.

  • Yes, we are meticulous in our work, including cleaning up. This includes daily tidying, removal of dust and airing of paint fumes. We remove all masking tape upon completion and take away all of our rubbish and empty paint buckets.

  • The main reasons why using a professional painter is better than doing it yourself include:

    • We have the time and experience to do an outstanding job. Generally speaking, we can often do in a day what it might take the average homeowner a few weekends to do – time that they should be relaxing or hanging out with friends and family.

    • We also have all of the right preparation products – and there can be a lot of them, including contract filler, builder’s bog, gap sealant, CRC rust converter, different sizes of masking tape, outdoor cleaning products, etc.

    • We have access to premium products from Resene, Dulux and Wattyl. We know their product ranges exceptionally well so we can determine what is best for your project.

    • Our equipment and machinery is industrial-grade, which means we can do a more thorough job – and do it quicker – than you would be able to do with the average DIY tools.

  • Because we are members of Master Painters NZ, our work is covered by their five-year workmanship guarantee.

We use Resene and Dulux products, which means our projects are covered by their product guarantees.

  • Our all-inclusive process looks like this:

    1. Get in touch with us for an estimate for your interior or exterior paint project.

    2. We’ll call you to discuss the details and book a convenient time to visit your property.

    3. We’ll meet with you in person to discuss your requirements and take measurements.

    4. You’ll receive a customised scope and pricing breakdown outlining the steps and detailing the materials we’ll use to complete the job. This includes our tried and true preparation process and products, any scaffolding required, and a personalised, validated paint system.

    5. We’ll give you a follow-up call to answer any questions and clarify details as needed.

    6. Once your quote is accepted, we’ll confirm in an email all the details and project dates.

    7. On our first day on-site, you can meet the team and site supervisor, discuss daily working hours and any special requests.

    8. As work begins, multiple quality checks are carried out throughout the project and you’ll receive regular updates from our project manager.

    9. At the end of the project, you’ll have time to inspect all of the work and request any touch-ups to ensure everything meets your expectations.

    10. We’ll mark the project as completed only once you’re satisfied with everything.

    11. You’ll receive your colour schedule for future reference and after-care instructions to help maintain your newly painted surfaces.

  • This depends on a few factors, such as the size of the property we’re painting, the season/weather (that is, whether we can open all the doors and windows), and how big the work area is.

We’ll do our best to work around your schedule, and discuss timings with you when we first discuss your project. Wherever we can, we use low VOC paints which have much lower solvents and fumes. And we have industrial grade drying equipment to help speed up drying time where appropriate.

  • We are somewhat flexible with our hours and will do our best to work around timings that work for you. We can discuss that right at the start of the process.

  • Yes, we can also help with any wallpaper jobs you have. In fact, it’s much easier for us to remove and apply wallpaper (rather than you spending time doing it yourself) because of the equipment and expertise we have.
